Our Story

Völundr Scientific was founded in 2021 by Dr. Joe Licavoli as a small consulting firm. The company focuses on projects that bridge the gap between academia and industry, particularly in the fields of metallurgy and materials science. Völundr Scientific has recently announced plans to expand into a small-scale research laboratory, aiming to better serve customers and support internal capabilities.

 

The company's mission is to transform scientific research into real-world technologies for manufacturing and industrial applications. To achieve this, Völundr Scientific collaborates with a vast network of researchers to close capability gaps and support various research activities. By occupying the space between academia and industry, Völundr Scientific strives to improve performance and results for both sectors.

Hello! I'm Dr. Joe Licavoli.

​

For the past two decades, I've been honing my expertise in metallurgical processes and material design. My diverse background spans the automotive and aerospace industries, along with experience as a process engineer before earning my PhD. I have thrived in various roles within industry, academia, and government research.

 

I enjoy applying scientific principles to elevate manufacturing projects and have plans to hire staff and build a facility to better serve my clients. I'm friendly and always ready to assist. I've authored and co-authored numerous journal articles, which you can find on Google Scholar. My expertise encompasses a wide range of metal alloy systems and manufacturing processes.

A fun fact about me: I recently ventured into writing scripts for a YouTube/Spotify show/podcast called "The Why Files." The topics are intriguing and aim to entertain and debunk myths. One episode I co-wrote ranked #7 on Spotify among all podcasts the week it was released!

My true passion lies in using materials science and metallurgy to solve significant problems. Whether it's enhancing power plant efficiency or developing biomedical alloys, I'm dedicated to using science to make a real impact. Let's collaborate and turn your goals into reality!
